Summer 2016

It’s been a while! Here is a shortened version of all the posts we meant to do this summer but never got around to (with things going on like summer classes for me, Netflix for both of us, etc). Summer is my favorite season, so I’m sad it’s over, but we had a lot of fun!

Back in May, Natalie graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder. It was great to be able to be there for her graduation and to celebrate all of her accomplishments!

Mike’s brother Ken came and stayed with us for the long weekend over Memorial Day. We ate some good food and went to some Smithsonian museums, including the National Zoo.

Natalie came out to visit in June to spend a weekend with us before leaving for her new job at a public health non-profit in Nicaragua where she’ll be for the next two years. We hung out downtown and went to the WONDER Exhibit at the Renwick Gallery, which was… wonderful. 🙂

For the 4th of July, we went camping in Shenandoah. It was so nice to be able to escape into the mountains in between the end of one summer class and before the start of another. We even saw two bears while hiking, a first for both of us

This isn’t related to summer, but Ben and Ellie are friends.

At the end of July, we went to Iowa to see my dad’s side of the family. I hadn’t seen some of my cousins in years, and it had been a long time since that many of us were able to get together in one place. It was really nice too see everyone!

In August, we went on a cruise to the Bahamas. We had never been on one before, but got a cruise voucher as part of the deal for moving into our current apartment. We had a really relaxing time on the beach and liked exploring Ardastra Zoo & Gardens, which had trained marching flamingos.

Summer flew by, but I’m glad we got to do so many fun things!
