Chincoteague

At the beginning of the summer, Natalie, Mike, and I made a list of all the things we wanted to do while she was out here so that we wouldn’t find ourselves at the end of the summer with too many things to fit in before she left. This list included things like go to an outdoor movie, get a cupcake from Baked and Wired, go to the National Gallery, and also go to Chincoteague Island, VA, known for its wild ponies.

Family Road Trip: Part 4

After a really fun time in Charleston, we drove the 8 hours back up to Washington, DC (putting us at about 2,200 miles total, or almost as many miles in a week as we’d driven since getting the car in February!). We met up with Natalie in downtown DC after her work to get dinner at China Chilcano, a Peruvian and Asian fusion restaurant, since Natalie had been craving some good Peruvian food after her semester in Peru last fall. The food was really good and it was nice being reunited with Natalie again!

Family Road Trip: Part 1

Mike and I took a road trip last week with my parents and siblings. We started off by going to Tampa and then making our way back up the coast to DC, stopping in Charleston along the way. Mike had never really been on a road trip before besides driving to move out here, and it had been forever since my family had been able to coordinate time off together on a vacation like this in a few years, so it was really great to be able to do this with everyone! Kongos at Celebrate Fairfax

Every few thousand years… we post on our blog.* 🙂

Putting the apartment back together and replacing and rebuilding everything after the flood has been a very long and time consuming process, but we are finally back to normal again! It feels great to have everything settled down a little bit. My sister Natalie is staying with us this summer for an internship, and it’s been lots of fun having her out here. We’re trying to take advantage of as many fun things to do out here as possible.

A Very Memorable Easter

We had quite the Easter last weekend – we are all safe and sound back in the apartment, so thankfully there hasn’t been any lasting harm done, but it’s been quite crazy around here the past week.

Mike and I woke up at about 4:50 AM last Saturday morning to the cats running wildly in the bedroom. It took a second to figure out what was going on, but there was a loud rushing sound coming from outside our room. I opened the door and was hit with a wall of steam as hot water came pouring out at full blast from the HVAC closet across from the doorway. I shut the door, but water started to seep in and it was clear that we needed to leave.
